Buried Dreams & Publication Plans

Well, we’re getting closer to the release of Buried Dreams. I don’t have a “release day” in mind. Instead, I have a “release week”. I intend to release it between December 26 December 31, 2020. After I get the editing finished, I will upload it to all retailers and then announce it’s been uploaded.

Looking forward into 2021, I can give you some release date estimates. Nephilim Narratives 4 – Movement in the Shadows will release in March. Dreams & Reality – Innocent Dreams is slated for June. I’m hoping to get NN5 released in late September and Competitive Dreams will come out Halloween. If the stars align, Avenging Reality and The Dysfunctional Christmas will both release in December (my goal is The Dysfunctional Christmas at the beginning of December and Avenging Reality after Christmas).

I figure since Movement in the Shadows is written as is Innocent Dreams, this will give me most of the first half of 2021 to rewrite Avenging Reality, as well as write NN5, Competitive Dreams, and The Dysfunctional Christmas.

Also, as a reminder at some point in 2021 the first 3 D&R audiobooks will release, as well as the revised edition of Tortured Dreams and the first 3 Nephilim Narratives audiobooks. For the first year, they will only be available via Apple audiobooks, but after that they will enter full retailer circulation including library apps such as Hoopla, Overdrive, and Libby.

For D&R, the audiobook narrator’s gender will match that of the killer. This means Tortured Dreams will be read by a woman while Elysium & Mercurial will be read by men. We also think each book will have a different narrator. The Nephilim Narratives will be more “standard” with the same female narrator performing all of them.

I hope everyone in the US had a decent holiday, even if it wasn’t what we are all used to. Ours was much smaller this year and we missed the smiling faces of some of the nieces, nephews, and great nephews…. hopefully by this time next year, things are a little calmer.

Premium Content (Yearly)

Way back in March, when the coronavirus first started popping up in the US.  I hit a rut and found myself too consumed to write.  So, I decided to start a “pandemic” novel.  I got 10 chapters written before I abandoned the book.  Premium content is the rough draft of the novel I started in March 2020, which feels like it was years ago, not 9 months.

Unintended Consequences – COVID Edition

Why mask wearing should not be political.

Person A works for retail corporate America as a store manager. Last week, one of the big bosses called a staff meeting at Person A’s store. The boss told the 8 employees “I’m not sick and wearing a mask is disrespectful.” Three days after the meeting, Boss becomes sick and tests positive for COVID. Doesn’t tell his employees in that staff meeting.

Person A woke up Sunday morning with some breathing difficulties, a sinus headache, stuffy nose, and muscle aches. Person A is 27, non-smoker, works out at the gym 5-6 days a week, eats healthy. The whole shebang. Person A finally gets in for a COVID test on Monday. It’s positive.

Person A is a single father raising a baby. He has a roommate, Person B, a 24-year old female, occasional smoker who works out 5 days a week or so, works at a daycare, and has a toddler. Immediately upon Person A getting their positive COVID test, Person B is told by her work, she can’t return to work until December 1, even if she doesn’t get sick herself. They entire household is wearing masks and walking around with bottles of hand sanitizer.

Person B does not have health insurance, nor does she get sick time or vacation time from her job, because it is not part of a chain daycare. It is an individual owned daycare that doesn’t offer benefits (which is pretty standard for non-corporate chain daycares like Kindercare). Unless Person B actually comes down with COVID, she will not be paid for any of her time off from November 11, 2020 until December 1, 2020. However, in the age of COVID, she does not have the option to return to work even if she never gets sick until her quarantine is over. Her concern, will she be able to afford her part of the rent and things in December. Nevermind, Christmas and things, that will have to be an afterthought if she has any money left after she is able to return to work. Worse, she now sorta hopes she gets COVID because then the state of Kansas will pay her to not go to work.

I asked the obvious question, are you going to get tested? At which point, I learned the test for someone without symptoms, just exposure is $200 where she is. Person B doesn’t have $200. So she won’t know if she’s infected and asymptomatic or what.

Furthermore last week, we learned a friend of ours who had COVID in late July has it again. The person in question had decided “I’ve had it, I’m immune why bother with the extra precautions of mask wearing when it isn’t mandatory.”

Unfortunately, both of these scenarios could have been avoided by mask wearing. Every time someone brings up COVID all they talk about are the deaths and I get it, they are important. But there is so much other stuff at stake, like a toddler’s Christmas and there are always unintended consequences to every decision. Is this the year Santa will forget to visit the toddler’s house because Mommy can’t afford Christmas or is this the year a toddler gets to have a serious discussion about finances and how Santa isn’t real, stuff he won’t understand, and for what? So someone wouldn’t be uncomfortable in a staff meeting for an hour? So before you decide to go without a mask ask yourself “Is my comfort more important than a toddler’s Christmas?” Nearly 75% of the US’s population lives paycheck to paycheck and just because you aren’t sick today, doesn’t mean you aren’t passing germs to a minimum wage worker without benefits who is going to be forced to stay home, possibly without pay for two weeks.

Nephilim Narrative 3: Demon Boxes has published and a new (complicated) organization was introduced. Which will become more important as the series continues the AESPCA (All Encompassing Supernatural Protection Agency). This week’s premium content is structure of this organization. Eventually, it will be made available as a stand-alone page (probably after NN4: Movement in the Shadows releases).

Russia’s War On America

Sixty-Eight year old Russian President Vladimir Putin is not a fan of democracy. Nor is he a fan of America. Putin was born to be loyal to the Communist Party and held several important positions with the Soviet government prior to its collapse in 1991. Since then, he has held several important positions within the Russian Republic including prime minister and now president. But even though the Cold War has ended, Putin is still waging a cold war against America. Russia even has a department within its intelligence community aimed at spreading misinformation in America. As a 20th century socio-political historian, I have been watching Putin’s Russia with fascination. I am not surprised by the information they put out, but I am surprised by how many people fall for it.

For example in early March a social media account linked to the Kremlin released a medical report claiming Biden had early signs of dementia. Perhaps oddest, the Trump Campaign latched onto that report and continued to spread it, including pushing viewers to watch doctored videos of Biden supposedly forgetting he was running against Trump, the interviewer is George Lopez and he says George’s name, he’s not confused about who he is running against he is being polite and buying himself a few seconds to think about what he wants to say next by addressing his interviewer by name a public speaking technique taught around the world) as well as a doctored video showing Biden supposedly campaigning in Florida, but calling it Minnesota. Except the original video was shot in Minnesota not Florida. Another purports to show Biden sleeping during a live broadcast interview, except according to the reporter featured in the video the interview never took place (in this last video it is obvious it is a still image of Biden with a snore track added overtop of it and not a live video feed because despite the incredibly deep snoring Biden’s chest doesn’t rise and fall nor does any movement occur).

None of this is surprising, these are the exact same things the Soviet Union was doing in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. What is surprising is how fast Putin and his media machine latched onto social media to spread information. In 2017, Twitter accounts linked to the Russian government tweeted more than a hundred different conspiracy theories about US elections being rigged, the perpetration of mass voter fraud, and fake news reports about Democrats running a child sex ring out a pizza place in Washington DC. It is most interesting to me that they managed to Tweet about Pizzagate so often and get retweets, because in 2016 when it happened it was covered by every major news network on the planet.

Twitter has removed the majority of these accounts because of the sheer volume of misinformation being put out by them. But the damage is done. When it was announced in early 2020 that Putin had ordered bounties put on American soldiers in the Middle East (before the pandemic hit), those accounts tried to link the bounties to US allies not Russia and even attempted to tweet the bounties were put out by former president Barack Obama.

in August 2020, the day after Biden announced Kamala Harris as his running mate, a Kremlin linked Twitter account Tweeted that Kamala Harris was not born in the US. Which is actually fine, as long as she’s been naturalized she can run for Vice President of the US. The same account Tweeted in May 2020 that US COVID cases were so high solely because US Doctors were profiting by claiming more people had COVID than really had it because doctors treating COVID were being given bonuses, even if a patient died from misdiagnosis.

This is exactly what Vladimir Putin wants; he needs a divided America who believes whatever lies the Kremlin churns out because it gives him some control over the country he hates and fears. This is why it is so important to research any news story before you share it. You as a sharer are responsible for knowing if it’s real or if you are acting like a puppet for Russian President Vladimir Putin.

I am so sorry! I thought this had posted last week and apparently I set it to release in December. And with the election I forgot to schedule premium content for November 4th. So, you will get 2 premium content posts this week/weekend and both will deal with Demon Boxes. As many of you know, I rewrote Demon Boxes from start to finish this summer. So why did I rewrite it? I forgot the ending and when I went to put the ending on the original, I realized I could have done a better job with the first two-thirds of the book. Here is the original first chapter of Demon Boxes
