The night of the 30th, I noticed very mild swelling near where I have my gallbladder pain. I also noticed a small plum sized hard spot in the same place.
Friday morning, I woke up at 6:50 am after not going to bed until 2 am, which usually means sleeping until 9 a.m. I got out of bed and my pain had changed. It wasn’t the achy bruised feeling I’m used to in regards to my gallbladder. It was a sharp stabbing pain that also burned a little.
My mother and husband told me I had to go to the ER especially coupled with the fact that lately any and all foods make me sick. Fine. I went. Diagnosis UTI which was causing an increase of symptoms. I was told the hard knot I was feeling was my ribs after it was pushed on by a nurse and a physician’s assistant.
I have a bleeding kidney. About half the first cousins on my mom’s side also have one kidney that just seems to leak a little blood as does my mom and some of her siblings. A urologist thinks that for whatever reason the bleeding kidney is hereditary (there are much weirder things that are hereditary) and that the constant presence of blood in my urine and in that kidney is why I keep a pretty much constant urinary tract infection.
I came home with antibiotics and pretty much determined not to go back unless I have to be taken by ambulance. I have a surgery consult on the 4th. I can deal with it until then. I struggled down some dinner and then threw it up about an hour later.
As I was kneeling in front of the toilet, I noticed the knot was back. The one they told me was my ribs. Only, where they were pushing and where the knot is located is roughly 2 to 3 inches apart. I kept moving their hands to where I felt the knot and was told I couldn’t have a hard spot there.
I told my editor. She lives in Louisiana not Missouri and she asked if the hospital was staffed by incompetents. Because for those that have been paying attention, when my hip started bothering me in June 2017, they told me the hip swelling and pain was a UTI.
I realize it’s difficult to not diagnose the UTI since I always have it. But aren’t they getting tired of that same old thing always being listed as my problem? Especially since 99.9% of the time, I don’t have any symptoms with a UTI? Oh and it was morning and I am more likely to have much darker urine in the morning because my kidneys have not emptied from the collection during the night.
Sadly this is considered one of the best hospitals in Missouri. But sometimes I have to wonder if I would get better care if they had a witch doctor on staff.
