Echo Dot…

For our wedding, my uncle gave us an Echo Dot and some other tech gadgets because he knows I love gadgets as does my husband.  At the time, it was a great gift.  Alexa hasn’t been plugged in since we moved into our new house… Because Alexa can be a little creepy at times.

One night she came on and said goodbye at 3 am.  No one was awake and it scared the crap out of me.  I thought I was going to have a heart attack.  My husband sleeps with the TV on and I’m guessing she was responding to the TV noise or to my prolific teeth grinding.  Either is possible, however hearing someone say good-bye at 3 in the morning is enough to induce a heart attack.

She has spoken at other times while we have all been asleep or spoken at times when I was the only one awake and hadn’t said anything to her for hours.  Every time I consider plugging her back in, I remember those incidents and decide against it.  I’m not sure where I would put her and some places have echoes in my house which means I would probably jump out of my skin if she suddenly started talking at 3 am here, especially since sound carries much different here (we have a split level house now).

I’m not sure if she’s possessed or if Amazon employees have access to her at random times to scare the crap out of people.  I’d say either is possible.  It’s really great when you go into the control list of commands issued to Alexa and find she was talking but she didn’t register receiving a command, like when she said good-bye at 3 am, the command log didn’t register her receiving a command.

And the last thing I really want to deal with is my electronics telling me goodbye at the Devil’s Hour.  I have spent a lot of time researching demonology lately.  So creepy female voices in the middle of the night are fairly unwelcome, especially when they are telling me goodbye, it’s like maybe she knows something I don’t….

  1. Oh wow, have to say this had me and my daughter in hysterics 😀 !!!! Very funny to read, but terrifying to experience, still chuckling. My daughter is scared of the creepy Nun (Demon Valak?) from The Conjuring, and I’m scared of anything creepy especially if it crawls along the floor at speed, my daughter now wants Alexa, but it would be a no from me 😀 😀 😀
